As you know I’m new to feng shui. I’m learning it with a focus on how to set our bus conversion/skoolie up using feng shui principles. But wow, is there a lot to learn! So with a focus on the Prosperity/Power, Health and the Love/Relationship areas I’m rearranging things. And since Everette did more woodwork this week I focused on feng shui my shelving unit.
When I tackle any room or area I use the bagua map to overlay the space.
When it came to feng shui my shelving unit which is a vertical space along the hallway it didn’t divide up nicely…but what in a house really does? Nothing is square and clearly defined or compartmentalized nicely in thirds, but so much of feng shui is about intentions so I went with that. I considered what stuff I already had; how I felt about its energy; and how I thought it represented those specific energies. Its all a work in progress, so with some forethought and intention this is what I got (the orange lines are to give a general idea of where I broke the space up according to the bagua map).
In the Prosperity & Power corner I placed our games…many of them happen to be about money, prosperity and abundance so I put them there. They spilled over into the Fame & Reputation space which seemed to work fine with me. Building an empire makes one pretty famous, and playing games with honour towards other people would certainly give you a great reputation. Works for me!
As you can see the Love/Romance corner is bare except for a clip lamp. My marriage matters to me far more than what this picture implies!! I’ll have to work on that corner asap.
In the Family/Relationships space I stored some movies (we enjoy family movie nights). It also includes Core Health which spilled over in the very centre space which is Health & Well Being. Here I placed my essential oils and diffuser, and the rest of our “medicine cabinet”.
Far right on the middle shelf is the space for Children/Creativity/Communication. This is where our arts and craft supplies were placed. Papers, markers, sewing accessories, beads, knitting, etc. These are the things we love to do, often pooling creative ideas together.
When feng shui my shelving unit the left corner is for Knowledge and Personal Growth. Seemed like a logical place to put a bunch of our books. Its also a great idea to keep as much of your heavy items lower to the ground/foundation for safety reasons.
The bottom centre section is for Career & Work Success. To me this overlaps a bit with the Knowledge and Personal Growth space, where one always needs to be gaining knowledge, further education and developing ones own being to be able to have successes in other areas of your life, particularly your career. This space represents the goals you want to achieve. I placed my computer bag here. Everything I need to run my online businesses fits in that bag and is portable…it can go anywhere in the world I want to go!
Finally, the bottom right corner is Helpful People/Travel. Currently that’s also empty. The word associated with this area is synchronicity…which means that
- everything comes to you when you need it,
- you are always in the right place at the right time
- and you always have the necessary help and guidance.
In other words, everything runs smoothly for you…just what you want in your life whether you’re traveling or not!! So its certainly an area to pay attention to. This might be where we keep the maps & travel guides we aren’t currently using, any files we have on destinations we hope to hit on our travels, and maybe all our contact information for all those helpful people we’ve met (or will).
So that’s basically how I feng shui my shelving unit. As I’m prone to become literal and legalistic, reminding myself that there is still a lot of freedom to work within feng shui, that my own personal energy, that of my family members and what our intentions are play a big roll in how energy flows (or doesn’t) in our space.
Everette and I are thrilled with all of our work. I think its turning out to be a great energy-filled bus conversion!
We’ll keep it rolling!
