How long have you been nomadic?
Our family has been traveling (and home-less by choice) since the autumn of 2007. You can read more about it in Living an Uncommon Life.
What do you recommend as a first step in drastically changing your lifestyle?
You’re probably expecting me to say, “Save Money” or “Get Out of Debt”. So this might surprise you. Number one thing I suggest…..Don’t tell anybody about your plans unless they are like-minded. People are generally negative and full of fear that they are far more likely to undermine your dreams than to encourage and support you, at least initially.
I’ve met plenty of people online and in person who say they’ve been dreaming of living a lifestyle of their own design for years (decades even!) but whenever they do they succumb to naysayers. So the solution….don’t let the naysayers even know.
Warning: Sometimes the people you think will support you, won’t. And sometimes the people you think will be the biggest critics, aren’t. So tread lightly when sharing.
What’s the second suggestion?
Find those like-minded people!
Its easier today than a decade+ ago. If you can’t find them locally, find them online using social media. There are tones of FB groups and forums of like-minded people with particular bents: for working online; for traveling long term; of having lots of kids; or childless by choice; attachment parenting. Whatever it is you aspire to become or are already there but feeling alone, find your tribe. You should feel a lot of camaraderie. If you don’t, then ditch them and find a group that’s better suited for you, and make sure they are a positive group.
If what we think creates our reality, what do you do daily to help with creating the mindset to accomplish your dreams?
I personally don’t leave it to just one thing. I use several modalities and tools to help keep me on task to reach my goals.
For example, I have my morning routine; I work on my chakras daily to keep my energies healthy and in line. I use Subliminal360 to flash positive affirmations on my computer screen while I work. I appreciate & enjoy the beauty of crystals and use them for eliminating what I don’t want, and attracting the things I want more of in my life. And I use essential oils to help clear my mind, help me handle my stresses & stay more positive, improve my health, etc. Essential oils are not only for me, but the entire family uses them multiple times a day. I never travel without them.
I listen frequently to The Secret, and read over and over what I wrote when working through How to Get Lots of Money for Anything Fast. The more often I fill my mind with the good stuff, the more my thoughts go to the positive. I’m quicker (but not perfect!) at catching my negative thoughts and turning them towards the positive. I am finding myself in bad moods less often, for shorter duration.
Starting and ending my day laying in my cozy bed, thinking of all the things I’m grateful for…adding these nuggets of mindful behaviour throughout the day…it’s all working towards giving me the life I’m envisioning.
