A few weeks back…gosh, must be a couple of months already…I applied a little feng shui to the shelving we had for storage under bunk bed on our skoolie. It was a way to organize our stuff but it wasn’t appealing. I wanted to do something that contained the items of each section and that would be less busy for the eyes.
Buying storage boxes at the store runs between $15-$35Cdn per box…pricey to store stuff in! We knew we could do it much cheaper than that.
Everette and I helped our newly wed kids do some decluttering and removed a big ugly dresser that had non-functioning drawers. We reclaimed some of the wooden drawers for storage on our skoolie. And painted them yellow. Tuscan Sun to be exact.
Then Everette found these pine crates for $8 each so he bought 8 of them.
Here’s How To
The colours I chose were:
- Tuscan Sun
- Bitter Chocolate
I lightly sanded all the pieces and used a rag to brush off the sawdust.
I dipped the brush into the paint and then into a container of water to thin out the paint when applying to the wood for a washed-out look. Its easiest to see the effect with the bitter chocolate boxes as the application really lightened it up…just the way I was wanting it.
After a couple of coats of wash-paint I let them dry before applying a clear top coat. I tried both a foam brush and a bristle brush…the foam seems to lather up the top coat creating a ton of tiny bubbles. You don’t want, so stick with a paint brush.
I have leftover paints in all 3 colours…so wait and see where else it shows up in our tiny house on wheels!
