Layne (& Dave) Percival
Online dating worked for these 2 Gingers!
Layne is our eldest child…one of the shortest but…dynamite comes in small packages.
Her love language is Quality Time so she’s always up to meet for ‘coffee’ and chat, balanced with being an introvert (so is Dave…big time) and working as a waitress.
Dave is a carpenter, and volunteers with RCMSAR (Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue). He loves to cook, and they are both gamers.
Rauchelle (& Seth) Burke
She was hiking and he was care taking on the Appalachian Trail when he heard somebody whistling and he had to find out who it was. Two “gingers” met, fell in love, and are making the most beautiful granddaughters!
Seth builds bikes and does all things Outdoorsy.
These two are fabulous parents. Climbing walls and swings in the living room. Skateboards when the kids are 2. Attentive, outgoing, nurturing, book loving. Our granddaughters have a wonderful homelife to grow up in.
After an 8.5 year break in child-bearing, we excitedly welcomed our Golden Girl into our family.
She’s often been the eldest of the traveling clan, but now she’s trailblazing her own path in life. She’s living the ‘normal life’ she was wanting, working full-time and paying bills. When she isn’t doing that, she’s reading or playing D&D…and always heading out for a coffee or tea at the cafe!
After a run of three girls we finally had a boy show up!
Mitchell was a big challenge as a young child, easily disturbed and agitated with learning difficulties. I thought I’d kill him sometime…but thankfully never did.
When our travels first took us to Mexico, Mitchell discovered his love of the sea….and he lived happily ever after; sailing, surfing, wind surfing, kayaking, fishing, anything on the water. He now lives on his own sailboat on Pacific waters, and plans some big crossings in the future.
Since she was about 18 months old, Maret has been “keeping up” with her big brother. These two at times have been inseparable as if they were twins.
Although she doesn’t realize it, this girl is mega talented. She’s now working on her photography (the best of the photos on this blog are hers…I stole them) including doing weddings, and always improving her dog training. She sells some of her art online, and is currently setting up a store online for her one-of-a-kind dog collars.
She has flitted around our household with a beautiful tune for years, hoping nobody hears her (but we do). Complete introvert.
Toveli is as beautiful as her name, which means “Good Happiness”. She loves to design fashions and stay up till the wee hours of the morning to find Quiet Time (a challenge in a big family). She is All-Things-Girly…and willing to model for Maret’s photography hobby. Her favourite place in the world? A forest.
Gaelyn used to introduce herself as “Hi! I’m Friendly”. Although she still is friendly with a big welcoming smile (& dimples) she’s far more subdued now. She loves to read, play card games, sing along to the Broadway show “Hamilton”, bake & knit.
When on the road she loves to smell her favourite essential oil, Pine, since it reminds her of playing endless-hours in the rainforests of Vancouver Island.
Anders is all boy following in the steps of his big brother, Mitchell. He’s been climbing since he was about 18 months old…bookshelves, apple trees, anything to get a better perspective…or to look down on the rest of us!!
He’s already a gentleman, a chef, a mean card player. He has a natural feel for Justice, and is always on the lookout to make sure nobody is overlooked. An adventurer with just enough daredevil to make it fun, he rarely gets himself into (deep) trouble. He loves the ocean, but has decided he prefers sailing over surfing!
I sympathize with Laars as the youngest in our respective families. He hates it…but I tell him he’ll likely appreciate it when all the older siblings are gone and we can afford the time and money to do a whole lot more stuff without all of them!! Being the youngest can pay off in the end, I know!
Laars has a whole lot more going on in his head than anybody realizes. However, he struggles to get it communicated well to the world. Foods clearly effect his brain and moods and is a major reason why we eat a lot of grain-free cooking/baking. He loves creating things, whether its with paper/tape, magnets, or Lego. Laars is generous with big hugs and “I love you!”
